Re: Clintwood vs Galax, State Championship Predictions
Well folks, this season just as last season has showed us (if others dont want to believe it or not) that our "old outdated" style of football still wins championships. Clintwood has proven that heart, desire, and power football can overcome any other style of football. George Wythe, Sussex Central, and Galax has all be introduced to and lost to LPD smashmouth I formation football! I'm proud of clintwood!
Re: Clintwood vs Galax, State Championship Predictions
Guys, I think this season was my last rodeo in terms of actively attending football games and frequenting this forum. It's been a wild ride over the past several years and I appreciate all the awesome people I've met here and maybe I'll drop back in every once in a while to see how things are going. Have a Merry Christmas and great holiday season, everyone. So long.
Re: Clintwood vs Galax, State Championship Predictions
Galax did not lose to smash mouth football and the hard hitters of Cintwood. Galax beat themselves in the second quarter spotting Clintwood 21 freebie points. Teams don’t make it this far not being a good quality team; Galax gave the game away in the 2nd. They gave the ball back on 2 punts when no player clearly knew where the ball was. A kickoff where the ball almost looked like the wind brought it backwards and again no player knew where the ball was. Galax proved they could run on Clintwood, they rushed for over 200 yards and passed for well over 100. Also big running back for Clintwood went to the sideline on 3 different occasions after getting his sh*t rocked. The big offensive lineman also got his sh*t rocked twice trying to block shalabi. Clintwood was big and fundamentally sound BUT Galax was the obvious better team and no one could contain Deon George surprised they didn’t throw at him more. You can’t spot a team 21 points and expect to come back in the state championship which they almost did! Very questionable pass interference call on the last play, Clintwood players both stared at ref waiting for flag. It was an amazing game to watch, I think Galax really surprised Clintwood with their toughness and obvious hard hitting that no one realized they possessed. Congrats to Clintwood on being the state champs, the last 1:30 was some of the most exciting football I have ever witnessed.
What we cant do in football we make up for in basketball, defending state champs and picked to win it again.
Re: Clintwood vs Galax, State Championship Predictions
Sounds like sour grapes and home cookin' on your part but Galax was NOT the better team. Both teams were well balanced and the better team won. Fumbles are part of the game and that thing they call a football bouncing around, well, if you are not paying attention to it like you said Galax was not, you are saying that they are either mentally challenged or stupid for not finding the ball. I think Galax players are better than that but you are potraying their players like they are bad. Galax had good players and dont be so hard on them. Clintwood was paying attention and wanted it more. Not Clintwood's fault that the players from Galax did not want the ball.
Deon George was soft. When a 5'8, 140 lb, 15 year old (and that is being generous) FRESHMAN from Clintwood can bring down a 6'3 200 lb player on one hit, you are soft. Had great hands but he knew better than go across the middle. Galax had over 200 yards rushing but 80 of it was on one play. Clintwood shut them down after the 1st quarter except for that one play in the second half. As far as players from Clintwood getting their bell rung...this is football, things like that happen...the very first series for Galax, the running back fumbled and was holding his arm...I don't understand you point of putting that in there.
21 freebie points?? Hmmm, the game I saw Clintwood had to cross the goal line and Galax never game them anything and what about the 3rd quarter? Where all those points freebies too? I did not know points were free.
Not sure why you are putting this post on here. I guess you are trying to explain why the Number 1 ranked team lost to a bunch that was predicted to lose all three games leading up to state.
Galax lost..it's over! Go ahead and brag about your basketball...at least you have SOMETHING to brag about on this football post and you get a small golf clap from me for your achievements in basketball...meanwhile, the football players in LPD are lifting weights and getting ready for next season.
Re: Clintwood vs Galax, State Championship Predictions
I never said you guys didnt hit hard, I said we hit harder than anyone expected. And yes our running back got rocked first play, we knew you guys hit hard, I am referring to our team. George only got thrown to a couple times and on 3 plays their were 2-3 plays being dragged, one catch 4 players on him. Maybe one kid did take him down who was little, anyone can take the legs out from under a guy? Yah one 80 yard run but we had 400 yards in offense. It will be interesting now that the game is under official review for apprehensive officiating. It would not be fair if the title is taken, because yes Clintwood won. But it will be interesting once the game is reviewed by the VHSL to hear their decision.

Apprehensive officiating?

Tough- ask any of the local guys and gals from JIB. The VHSL has never really made a "mistake" that I know of.
Re: Clintwood vs Galax, State Championship Predictions
Simply put Galax had not been hit like they got hit in this game and Clintwood won. As for the three freebie touchdowns, Did Galax hand the ball to Clintwood and move out of the way three times? Clintwood played typical hit em in the chin football and their heart and determination won the game, simple as that.
Re: Clintwood vs Galax, State Championship Predictions
I can understand being upset that Galax lost to Clintwood in dramatic fashion, but making up terms like apprehensive officiating only makes you look like an idiotic fan. Next thing you know, you'll be claiming to be a "sports journalist" like the other Galax fan on here.
Listen (and this goes for everybody)...I've got a good buddy of mine (Canes fan) that lives down in Gastonia, NC, but was born and raised in Galax. He was super-excited that Galax had made it to the state title game, and we ribbed each other back and forth the whole week in a friendly manner. When they lost...he wasn't yelling for a review, or talking about apprehensive officiating. He shot me a text message that simply said: "Wow. What a game. Tell your wife congrats on her alma mater bringing one home. My hats are off to Clintwood." Now--we've had two Galax guys get on this board and go on in the exact opposite way, in a non-sportsmanlike fashion. I'd like to believe that the majority of Galax fans feel the same way my buddy does--that they handled the loss with a high level of class and sportsmanship...and that these two guys acting foolish on here are just two rotten apples that we can't let spoil the barrell.
Re: Clintwood vs Galax, State Championship Predictions
Who cares? Game over. CW won,Galax lost-good luck next season
